Lavendon History Group - Next Meeting: 11 June 2012

Did you know that there is a History Group (part of the Lavendon Old Folks Club) that has a meeting most months to listen to a speaker, usually on a local or general interest history topic? Although these talks are organised by the Old Folks, they are usually of broad interest to a wider audience, and normally include a slideshow.

The talks are open to anyone, regardless of age, and are usually held on a Monday afternoon starting at 2pm in the Lavendon Village Hall. There is a charge of £1 for members and £2 for visitors or non-members. This helps to cover the cost of speakers as well as the tea and biscuits that are included.

The next meeting will be held on 11 June 2012 when it is expected that Alan Richardson will give an illustrated talk about
 'The Old Trades of Olney'.

Wall Hanging in Lavendon Church
to Commemorate
the
Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II

During the last 18 months 14 Lavendon ladies have been busy creating a large wall hanging (approx 6ft x 8ft) to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

The wall hanging depicts houses and activities in the village of Lavendon. It will be hung in St Michael's Church, Lavendon, and dedicated during the 9.30am service on Sunday 3rd June.

The Church will be open for
Afternoon Teas on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th June, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm
so that this magnificent work of art can be viewed.

Everyone is welcome.

An amazing example of the skill that has gone into making the wall hanging is shown below, in this case crafted by Mrs Erica Rodwell.
